Finished reading The Shoebox the other day, it was great from start to finish but WARNING, have a box of tissues near you. You will get totally involved with the characters from page one and can't wait to see what happens to them. It is like riding a roller coaster full of ups and downs. It is a story of true love and as in life, the road to true love is not always an easy one. Totally enjoyable story. Look forward to another book by Lisa Mercado-Fernandez.Product details

I bought this book because the author writes a blog I recently started reading, and which I enjoy very much. But the book was very disappointing. Every time the main character looked like he'd find happiness in his life, a tragedy happened. Every Time. The only reason I did not give it one star is because I finished the book and did not stop reading it earlier.
A series of ups and downs! Such is life I suppose but I felt the story could have had more substance to it. It left me with a lot of unanswered questions. Detailed lives in the beginning of the book and then almost a summary at the end. Disappointed....
I was in the mood for a good love story, and The Shoebox fit the bill. Peter and Maddy's story was a roller coaster ride for sure and kept me reading to learn the final outcome.
I fell in love with the character Peter; he was so loving and honorable. I got aggravated with the female characters Maddy and Tara, but that was what kept me reading to see what was going to become of all of them and their relationships. There were many surprises throughout the book.
I could relate to this story in many ways. So many memories of love and loss can be stored in a "shoebox". Dare we open them up and let loose those memories we have stored such a long time ago? Peter and Maddy were very real characters to me. I appreciate reading love stories where the man is the romantic driving force behind the story. Maddy and Peter's love was pictured in my mind so clearly. Keep writing stories that touch our hearts and ones that remind us of our past choices.
I loved this book! I nearly burned supper last night because I couldn't put it down. Doesn't everyone dream of a love that lasts forever? Peter and Maddy have that kind of soul-mate love, but life pulls them apart. Will they find their way back to each other? Can they repair what tore them apart? That's what keeps you turning the pages!
What an amazing story! I finished The Shoebox over the weekend and the last 25 pages had me in tears. Super well written and I loved all of the characters. Great story. Thank you Lisa Mercado-Fernandez. Can't wait for the next one.
